Sharing Warmth This Fall: BAAHSC’s Community Resource Workshop Brings Neighbors Together
On September 29, 2026, Bay Area Affordable Housing Service Center (BAAHSC) hosted its Sharing Warmth This Fall community resource workshop, welcoming nearly 30 local residents for a morning of practical information, helpful resources, and community connection.
The event was made possible with the support of Anthem Blue Cross, Mind Harbor, the Alameda County Public Health Department, and BANANAS, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the healthy development of children ages 0–5. Together, these organizations helped connect community members with valuable information and support services to meet their everyday needs.
Heavy Traffic Couldn’t Keep Our Community Away
Traffic congestion in the surrounding area made getting to the event challenging. Even so, nearly 30 guests made the trip and joined us in person. We are deeply grateful to every person who took the time and effort to attend.
We recognize that leaving home to attend a community event is not always easy, particularly for older adults and families facing daily challenges. Their commitment to participating reinforced our belief in the importance of continuing to bring accessible, meaningful community resources directly to the people who need them.
Practical Resources to Help Residents Find the Support They Need
The workshop focused on issues that matter to local residents, including affordable housing, health coverage, mental health counseling, and other community support services.
With the help of Anthem Blue Cross, Mind Harbor, the Alameda County Public Health Department, and BANANAS, attendees had the opportunity to learn more about available programs, how to access services, and which organizations they could turn to when facing specific challenges.
Information that may seem simple can make a meaningful difference for families and older adults navigating unfamiliar systems or looking for help. Knowing where to turn—and how to access the right resources—can be an important first step toward addressing real-life challenges.
Even after the workshop officially ended, many attendees stayed to speak with representatives from the participating organizations, ask follow-up questions, and seek more personalized guidance. These thoughtful, engaging conversations highlighted the strong need for practical community information and underscored the importance of connecting residents with the organizations and services available to support them.
Heartfelt Thanks Inspire Us to Keep Going
At the end of the event, several attendees took the time to thank BAAHSC for organizing the workshop and making valuable community resources more accessible. Hearing that the information was helpful and that the event gave them a better understanding of the support available in their community was deeply encouraging to our team.
At BAAHSC, we believe community service is about more than providing assistance. It is also about helping people know that they are not alone. Every family and every older adult deserves the opportunity to access information, find support, and feel cared for.
Looking ahead, we will continue working to connect nonprofit organizations, community service providers, and local residents through practical, needs-focused workshops. Our goal is to bring useful information closer to the community and help kindness and support continue to grow among neighbors.
We extend our sincere thanks to Anthem Blue Cross, Mind Harbor, BANANAS, and the Alameda County Public Health Department for supporting this event. We are equally grateful to every attendee who made the effort to join us and to all the representatives who generously shared their knowledge and resources.
With your support, the warmth of our community continues to grow. BAAHSC looks forward to welcoming you at future events as we work together to make valuable community resources more accessible to everyone who needs them—and to build a community where every neighbor can feel more supported, secure, and cared for.
